Did you know that some of your friends have a new look to their Facebook Timeline? You can’t see it unless you’ve also made the switch. You can take a look at the new features and get started yourself here. If you want to get a preview of changes first, keep reading….
Facebook Cover
Previously, there were 5 photos spread across your Facebook page, and now there is a single enlarged photo called a “Cover.” The cover is a great opportunity to make a statement about yourself or show off your favorite pic.
Once you opt in, there is a drop down menu at the top right of your profile page that allows you to choose what information appears at the top of your page. You cannot move the friends or photos box; however, you can move all of the other ones. The friends, photos, and notes are randomly selected to be showing, and the likes features a page that you most recently liked. Note that in the friends box, it shows the viewer mutual friends as well.
About Page
Your “about you” section is now located on your profile page under the “cover” picture in the blue box. To access the details you can click anywhere in the blue box, click the “about” button directly beneath the blue box, or you can click on the “Update If” button on the right hand side of your profile page (right beneath your cover). All of these links will lead you to here:
This page allows you to regulate what information is available and to whom. Make sure your info is hot linked to your business and/or educational institution. This detail is easy to forget and research shows that many miss this step!
View As Button:
A really great feature of the new timeline is the “View As” button. This allows YOU to see how the public and specific friends view your Facebook page.
After clicking the “view as” button, you can enter a friend’s name, or you can simply click the “public” button. It’s a helpful way to test out your privacy settings and make sure you’ve set the personal privacy defaults to your liking.
Timeline Stories
The new timeline “stories,” previously referred to as your “wall,” is now set up in two columns. Wall posts, status updates, and pictures will appear in two columns, and are arranged by date and time.
Timeline Features
A very cool trick is how you can “feature” a post by clicking the star button on the upper right hand side of the post. This will expand the post span into two columns, and gives you the opportunity to give special attention to a post that is important to you.
